Not sure how to...

...add this beautiful tatting edge to a hankie. This is from Mary Konior's book: Tatting with Visual Patterns.
It's called Clover. Since it was my first time to make it, as you can see I did not attach my work to
the hankie as I went. Now what? All done, I have a square but not sure how to crochet it around the hankie.
Help!  I did not line up the extra ring in the corner when taking this photo, but ALL corners will have the extre ring, just where it's suppose to be. Thanks in advance! *smile*

I would crochet an edge around the hanky and attach the edging to the crocheted edge. Beautiful pattern!

Thank you, Diane. Are you saying to single stitch crochet, then attach as I go??

That's what I would do - SC, not too tightly, but no gaps either. Pick up the picots evenly as you go, or sew the border on after into the crocheted loops. I would do it in one go, but it can be done both ways.

Pretty!

Absolutely gorgeous and I agree with Fox and Dianne on how to attach it!

Ditto, I agree. Do a single crochet around it and attach with a matching thread.

A while ago I made the same edging, in white. I attach the edging to the hankie later on, first indeed a round of crochet around the hankie. Then I take 4 paperclips and clip the edging in the corners on equal distances, then I fold the hankie in 2 and with a pin attach the middle of the edging (the part between 2 paperclips) to the hankie and so on. Then, with matching thread I sew the picots to the hankie. But I am sure you will find a way yourself too. Place it in front of you and think of how you could tackle this. Good luck. If you like, you can visit my page to see how I did it.

I'm not a hanky expert by any means, but why crochet an edge? I would simply sew it on. The rolled hem hides the stitches and you can use the "eyelets" of the fabric for spacing. If your edging is a bit big for the fabric, I can see crocheting a spacer between as it will take up some space and make the edging fit better but otherwise, no. I'm sure it's all done and looks fine though!

very interesting colours you'd used for the simple edging, and it turns out really well. have you heard some of us are into hanky edging craze? it's really addictive tatting up an edging.
