Lace Mat Poll has started!

Remember a while back the glass mat I did, Tat-a-long with Jon? It was in the fall and that is why I used the color 'Falling Leaves' in size 20. Well, its time to vote! So many beautiful pieces, its going to be hard to choose only 5. I am so grateful for Jon. She was so helpful in the learning

Jon wrote; "The Lace Mat is the first pattern by Norma Benporath that I tatted.  It was published in The Queenslander on  16th March 1938 (the Trove site sometimes has technical difficulties so you may not be able to see the actual tatting shown in the newspaper).  I have now completed the chart and am happy to share it here".

Shuttle tatted in Lizbeth size 20 thread, color: #100 Falling Leaves. Many thanks to Jon and others who had wonderful suggestions and ideas on how to improve the original pattern. I most say I learn a lot from working on this!

Something is just not right...

But the good this is, I have mastered the Clover using split rings! After working a bit on round 4, it seems to be 'bunching up'. Hummm, what did I do? So, after dampening the Lace Mat I see my problem. I have the incorrect placement of some of the rings on round 3! Oh well, back to the round 3 being very aware of where my rings are attached! Funny this is, I thought I was being careful!!! LOL Gotta laugh at myself, that or cry....*smile*

This is round 4 of the Lace Mat. I am at a stand still since Tuesday. Trying to decide to just stop here, or continue with only part of round five. Today is a new day...we shall see.

What a wonderful time we live in. I have a problem with tatting, and someone I never met, from around the world to me is so helpful!! Technology is such a wonderful tool! Video's, emails, Facebook! I can't even imagine what my parents would think of all this. Slice bread and indoor plumbing was a blessing to them! lol

So far...this is what I have. Since it's getting cool out this color seemed fitting. Since the mat will have 2 more rounds plus and outer edge I am thinking about adding solid colors on the next round(s). Still thinking about it. Jon, Tat-a-Renda at

A test piece

Jon, Tat-a-Renda at http://tatsaway.blogspot.com/ has a post I found really inspiring. She wrote the National Library of Australia (NLA) expressing her intention to rewrite the tatting patterns published in newspapers in the Australia from the early 1930's.  Please, take a look at her process. What a wonderful way to make 'old patterns' more tatter friendly! Thanks Jon!

 Well, I had just a bit of thread on a shuttle and wanted to 'try' the first round. Instead of the 8 rings it needs, I worked with the thread I had...and my test piece came out nicely. Kinda cute...lol
So, now I am off to make the first round, with all the rings!!! lol
